Knee Pain

Many athletes attend The London Podiatry Centre with a variety of different conditions relating to the knee. Knee conditions can be divided into two fundamental categories; those affecting the main knee joint and those relating to the knee cap and its surrounding structures (the patellofemoral joint). The most common injury associated with athletes is patellofemoral joint mal-alignment syndrome, where the knee cap becomes mal-aligned. This is associated with various forms of pathology including tendon and ligament inflammation and damage to structures at the side of the knee known as fat pads.

The causes for knee pain are varied and often complex. There is of course a much better chance of treating the condition successfully if one truly understands the mal-alignments and forces that may have caused the problem. To this end, the centre utilises in-depth biomechanical assessment and computerised gait analysis to form a true picture of the detrimental forces that are affecting the knee. This then allows for a refined treatment programme which maximises the chances of recovery.

The centre works closely with rehabilitation specialists and other doctors and professionals to ensure that the problem is treatred holistically. Any rehabilitation programme would be based specifically on the deficits noted during the biomechanical assessment and gait analysis.
