Hip pain
Many athletes attend the centre complaining of hip related pain. There are of course many possible causes and one of the most common includes trochanteric bursitis whereby a small protective fluid sac becomes inflamed as a consequence of tendon friction over a bone. This condition is often associated with abnormal foot function and mal-alignments of the lower leg and pelvis. Other conditions often managed at the centre include gluteal spasm, sciatica, Sacro-iliac joint dysfunction and arthritis.
The key to effective treatment is to obtain a diagnosis and the centre uses years of clinical experience and advanced imaging to obtain this., This however provides no information on the underlying cause for the condition and this is where the in-depth biomechanical assessment and gait analysis provides invaluable data which can lead to successful treatment. Treatments might consist of rehabilitation, injection therapy, and improvement in alignment with orthotic therapy. In rare instances, surgery may be required. Close liaison with other practitioners such as Orthopaedic Surgeons and Rheumatologists often takes place.
