Core instability and hip pain

Core instability is a term often used by doctors and therapists in relation to incorrect posture. During walking and running, the pelvis and spine should move in a symmetrical, controlled manner with good stability and no evidence of excessive or poorly controlled motion. Many individuals have compromised core stability and this can give rise to various types of injury. The measurement of core stability (and instability) during walking is key to understanding how to manage injuries effectively.

At the London Podiatric centre we have developed highly sophisticated ways of measuring core function using our biomechanical and gait systems. Factors such as leg length difference, foot dysfunction and biomechanical misalignment of the leg(s) can all cause core imbalances which if not treated will hinder a patient's recovery.
